#362 Luther Vandross, 'Never Too Much' (1981)

New Entry

New Entry

Luther Vandross started his career as a backing vocalist, most notably for David Bowie on the record ‘Young Americans.’ His other credits are too numerous to mention. ‘Never Too Much’ was his debut record and after listening to this, it’s difficult to imagine him as anything other as the lead artist. This album has been certified at double platinum and earned Vandross two Grammys.

The lead single and title track on the record, is such a major song, you’d know it without ever having heard of Luther Vandross. It’s etched into the fabric of our music history, and for very good reason; it’s just so excellent. The rest of the record sees Vandross delivering smooth, solid vocals on a debut record that finds the former background player very comfortable as a frontman.
