#382 Tame Impala, 'Currents' (2015)

New Entry

I had actually wondered if we’d see Tame Impala in this list. The solo project of annoyingly talented Australian musician, Kevin Parker, he took it to the next level with this one. Not only did he write, produce and play on all the songs, he also mixed the album himself and conceptualised the art. On his previous album, ‘Lonerism,’ Parker established himself as a musical force to be reckoned with, but on this album, he became a headline artist. In 2019, Tame Impala headlined Coachella, Splendour In The Grass and Glastonbury, a true testament to Parker’s songwriting and skill as a musician.

I know this album very well. How could I not? It’s a modern Australian classic. It won 5 ARIAs as well as a Brit and picked up a Grammy nomination. It’s got solid tracks such as ‘Let It Happen,’ ‘The Moment,’ ‘Yes I’m Changing,’ ‘Eventually,’ ‘The Less I Know The Better,’ ‘’Cause I’m A Man,’ and so many more. He pushed the envelope with this one, production-wise and songwriting-wise too. An artist that 10 years ago came out of nowhere, who is now dominating the scene. The first ‘strayan to appear on the list (no Lorde’s not Australian).
