#397 Billie Eilish, 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' (2019)

New Entry

New Entry

Another very fresh entry at only 20 months old. And even though it’s very fresh, I genuinely think that this album deserves to be here. The day I heard this album for the first time, I just knew the impact it would have and would continue to have. I listened to it 3 times that day. As it so happens, this album was #2 on my personal Best Albums of 2019 list. It’s innovative, it’s fresh and each song is as good as the next, which is saying something when the first song on the album is ‘Bad Guy.’

There was a staggering 7 singles from this record. The album is multi-platinum is multiple countries, having sold over 3 million records in the US alone. It’s double platinum in Aus, having sold in excess of 140,000 units. It was nominated for 3 Grammys last year, and Eilish (and her songwriting & production partner, brother, Finneas), went home with all 3, including Album Of The Year. They also took home Grammys for Song Of The Year and Record of The Year for ‘Bad Guy’ (it topped the triple j Hottest 100 Charts too). Finneas also won Producer Of The Year. Basically, this album was one of those rare albums that was an instant classic on release. That term gets bandied around a lot, but in this case, I can assure you, it’s true. We’ll be talking about Billie Eilish and this record for decades to come.
